Government boost for renewable energy

The Government says it is ‘determined’ to enable community energy projects to sell the power they generate directly to local homes and businesses – instead of having to sell to big energy companies for a fraction of the price they could receive if selling locally – and that it ‘will continue to work to make it happen’.

Power for People have been campaigning for this to happen for more than five years . They described the House of Commons’ commitment on 15 July, as a ‘momentous day for our campaign’.  The lack of such a law ‘makes it extremely difficult for communities to set up their own renewable energy schemes, and the result is there are hardly any in the UK’.
